Northwest Harvest Network Update:

Increasing Our Capacity to Better Serve You

With summer in full force we are increasing our capacity to secure fresh, nutritious food for the Hunger Response Network through continued partnerships and pilot programs across the state. First, many of you are starting backpack programs for local children or have taken on new initiatives to feed the homeless. We applaud you for this and in response to your desire to have Northwest Harvest procure that food at reasonable prices on your behalf, we are expanding our SmartBuys program to include kid-friendly, no cook items for your program.
Secondly, we are launching the Kids Summer Food Club, a pilot program to address summer hunger in high-need communities that lack access to free summer meals sites for their children. The Kids Summer Food Club will distribute additional kid friendly food to food banks to help replace meals usually received during school hours. The pilot program will start with 12 programs this August.
Lastly, we consistently hear from you the importance of having Northwest Harvest repackage bulk products for your program. As a result, we have started a Volunteer Task Force with the objective of increasing volunteer capacity at each of our warehouses with the goal of distributing more prepackaged food to you. We know that increased hunger and homelessness can make summer a challenging time for many of you and we thank you for all you do to support your communities!
