Northwest Harvest just finished another successful Kids for Cans event thanks to a brand new partner! KIMA-TV/KUNW Univision/CW9 stepped up to help Northwest Harvest spread the word about their annual school food drive that challenges schools to collect more non-perishable food than other schools in their area.
15 schools in the Yakima area participated in the challenge by having food drives sometime between November 1 and January 31. More than 31,000 pounds were collect this year. That’s more than last year’s total of 26,700 pounds. This year’s donations will help Northwest Harvest provide more than 24,000 meals!
Highland High School won this year’s challenge with an average of 5.4 pounds collected by each student at the school!
KIMA’s Alan Sillence visited the school last week. The school will also display the KIMA Kids for Cans trophy for one year. Congratulations to Highland High School and thank you to all the participating schools.
