The KIMA Kids for Cans event consists of Yakima area schools holding food drives from the beginning of November through the end of January.
It is a school challenge with a competition for the school that collects the most food. The winner is calculated on a total pounds collected by the total number of students ratio. This ensures that no matter how large or small the school everyone has a chance to win!
The winning school will have the traveling KIMA Kids for Cans Trophy displayed in their school from February through January of the following year, and they will also receive an appearance from KIMA-TV’s Alan Sillence at a school function of their choice; basketball game, assembly, dance, group/leaders pizza party, etc.
If your school is not on the list of participants please check and make sure they know about this challenge! This is great positive exposure for your school and community. More importantly, the need is at an all-time high.
1 in 5 people (1 in 4 children) struggle with hunger in our communities. Last year the Kids for Cans challenge collected almost 27,000 pounds of food, which equals about 21 ,000 meals! Please help us in our fight to eliminate hunger. On behalf of those in need in our community, we deeply thank you for your support!
