Kids For Cans
When planning your school’s community service efforts, consider participating in Northwest Harvest’s Kids for Cans food drive. Twice a year schools, youth and after-school programs collect food for those in need throughout Washington. Our network is now serving more than 210,000 children every month. Your participation in Kids For Cans can make a huge difference in the lives of kids living in food insecure households and their parents who struggle daily to put food on table.
What is it? A collection of nonperishable food items for kids by kids. Thirty-five percent of those served by Northwest Harvest are children, and local students can help by bringing donations to school. Last year, groups raised over 70,000 pounds of food.
When is it? Programs collect food for a two-week period in the spring and/or fall. At the end of the drive, the school or organization that has collected the most food per student wins!
How can we sign up? Contact Food Drive Coordinator Heather Millward at 206.923.7421 or heatherb@northwestharvest.org. Once your drive is arranged, we can provide posters, a template letter to give parents, ideas for making your collection a success, food pick-up instructions, stickers, and information about Northwest Harvest.
What happens next? In most cases, we can arrange pick up of bins in the King County metro area. You are also welcome to drop off your food at Northwest Harvest’s warehouse, and participate in a tour of our facilities.
We look forward to having your group join us in this effort! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Food Drive Coordinator Heather Millward at 206.923.7421 or heatherb@northwestharvest.org.
